Gas station clerk's smartphone stops bullet during robbery

A clerk at a Hess gas station in Florida didn't even know he had been shot until he pulled out his shattered cell phone.

Winter Garden, Florida

Police say a man in a hood pulled a revolver on an unnamed gas station clerk and demanded he open a safe. But neither the clerk nor a second clerk could get the safe open. As the suspect fled, police say he fired a shot back towards the first clerk. The suspect has not been identified or caught.

"He didn't realize he'd been shot." Lt. Scott Allen, Winter Garden Police

The clerk suffered only minor injuries when the bullet struck the front of his HTC smartphone, which was in a clothes pocket on his abdomen. The model of the phone was not reported.
