The Shiba Inu mascot of the increasingly popular digital currency Dogecoin was featured prominently on a car at a NASCAR race.
NASCAR-happy Redditors and the Dogecoin community successfully raised $50,000 (67 million Dogecoin) to sponsor a Dogecoin themed racecar at this year's Sprint Cup at Talladega Superspeedway on May 4. The #98 Moonrocket car will be driven by up-and-coming driver Josh Wise.
The crowdfunded campaign received 1,200 donations averaging $41 each. Updates on the campaign will be posted on Doge4NASCAR.org.
The Doge-themed car placed 20th out of a field of 43 cars at the Aaron's 499 race at the Talledega Speedway on May 4. The final design featured a prominent Doge both on the car's hood and back.
Dogecoin is a digital currency spinoff of Bitcoin created in December 2013 and is now the second most popular online currency in terms of daily transactions, according to Dogecoin. The same month the company was founded, a hacker made off with about $12,000 worth of Dogecoin.
