The comic book superhero based on the Norse god of thunder will be reintroduced in fall 2014 as a woman.
Since 1962, Marvel Comics has published the adventures of Thor -- based on the Norse god of thunder. The character has also been featured in two Hollywood films, along with being a core of Marvel's "The Avengers." But beginning in Oct. 2014, the hammer-wielding superhero will be re-cast as a woman.
"This is not She-Thor. This is not Lady Thor. This is not Thorita. This is THOR. This is the THOR of the Marvel Universe. But it's unlike any Thor we've ever seen before." Jason Aaron, Thor series writer
Thor's iconic hammer has an inscription that reads: "Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor." Editor Wil Moss said "it's time to update that inscription," emphasizing the new Thor "isn't a temporary female substitute - she's now the one and only Thor."
