Marvel made the announcement July 15, saying the new Thor will be the eighth title to feature a female protagonist and aims to attract women and girls to comic books. In February, a Muslim teen girl was introduced as Ms. Marvel.

Thor's iconic hammer has an inscription that reads: "Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor."
