Chris Reynolds of Delaware Co., Penn., a regular eBay buyer and seller, was shocked when he saw his monthly PayPal balance was $92,233,720,368,547,800 or $92 quadrillion. When Reynolds, who buys and sells car parts and other items online, checked his account directly, the balance was back to zero.

"I'm just feeling like a million bucks. At first I thought that I owed quadrillions. It was quite a big surprise" Chris Reynolds, PayPal quadrillionaire

92 quadrillion is such a vast number that Bill Gates' $72.7 billion fortune would be a rounding error. It's also 1300 times greater than $70.2 trillion — the GDP of the entire world

PayPal hasn't commented, in line with its policy against discussing individual accounts, but it seems unlikely Reynolds will be able to keep the money. If he had that sum, he said, "I would pay the national debt down first. Then I would buy the Phillies, if I could get a great price."

To make amends, PayPal later offered to donate an unspecified amount of money to charity in Reynolds' name, according to a July 17 New York Daily News report. Reynolds did not say whether or not he has accepted the offer.
